I bought a box of candy called How To Fall in Love

and I ate it and it was perfect in every way.

So here I am, reading about Chekhov dying from tuberculosis,

and I am eating an apple butter sandwich in my cozy living room,

the window open, a sliver of the moon in the corner of the sky.

This story was written by Chekhov for someone else.

By somebody else, for Chekhov.

 

Ricky Garni was born and raised in Miami and Maine. He works as a graphic designer by day, and writes music by night. His work is widely available in print, on the Web and in a number of anthologies, and has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize on five occasions.  Some of his recent titles include: THE ETERNAL JOURNALS OF CRISPY FLOTILLA, MAYBE WAVY and THE SEA OF KICKING LEGS and JIGGLE FEST. THE PINKY EMBRACE, a collection of short pieces, will be released in August, 2015. Mr. Garni has lived in North Carolina since 1987.
